I've been considering a Star Wars movie marathon (episodes 4, 5, and 6) for some friends who have yet to see the Star Wars light. One of these friends was made into Lando Calrissian in the recent Star Wars Jib Jab video, and she had no idea who Lando was.
I know. It must be remedied. I was thinking about hosting a party/movie watching marathon just for folks like her. I'd serve Wookiee-cookies and hand out Millennium Falcon magnets. But when I spied these Star Wars Cookie Cutters from Williams Sonoma linked on Twitter today, it was like fate. Now I have to go through with the Star Wars marathon. And in case you want to make Star Wars cookies too, here's my favorite sugar cookie recipe (from All Recipes):
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with your fancy Star Wars cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
