Take the oath with Jon Snow and join the Night's Watch

Westeros needs you to protect its northern border: say the words and join the honorable Night's Watch on the Wall. It's probably not as cold as you think it will be (I'm just kidding. It will be worse).

You won't be the only one joining the ranks though. Recruit your friends to visit My Watch Begins and record the Night's Watch oath. The site will guide you through the words and your voice will be added to a chorus of others who have done the same. You can play it back to hear just your oath, your oath combined with everyone else's, or just hear particular cast members say the words. You can even search for friends.

Yes, it is an exceedingly clever promotion, and it gets cooler (ha!). The recording featuring all of the new recruits will be available on February 19th to celebrate the DVD/Blu-ray release of the second season of Game of Thrones. That means you have until the 18th to record your vow.

For no good reason except that I was probably bored, I memorized the Night's Watch oath a while ago. If you have done the same, keep in mind the television version is different than the one featured in the books.

Book version of the oath:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
Television version:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls.I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
The recording already sounds impressive - this is certainly the largest force the Night's Watch has seen in many winters. Will you take the black with me?
