If You've Ever Wanted To Start Reading Comics...

I'm a late bloomer in so many ways, and this includes getting into comics. I didn't pick them up until I was in my mid-twenties. There are just... barriers. And one of the hurdles is the different names you hear for comics: graphic novels, trade paperbacks, floppies, etc. Ahhh! Insider terminology! It can be intimidating. If that's one of the items that's been stopping you from visiting your local comic shop, please check out the first installment of "Don't Be a Dick." Yes, it is a wonderful name for a comic strip.

The strip by The Ladydrawers is an "in-depth look at the comics community and gender diversity." There will be six installments, all written by Janelle Asselin and edited by Anne Elizabeth Moore. The first strip is drawn by Katie Cook. Here's a peek:

Go read the rest of "What's in a name?" over at Bitch Magazine and then walk confidently into a comic book shop and get started!

  1. I don't know how much use it is to you anymore, but I also attempted a couple posts as a crash course to comics back in 2012 over on The Arbitrary Nerd.

Maybe I should work on an update soon. Too bad I can't draw, or I'd even be able to make it fun :/

    1. Oh, that's cool! I'll have to go check it out. :)
