Watch Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars

Star Wars: The Clone Wars wasn't the only cartoon made about the time period between Episodes II and III. There was also Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars. The stylized shorts aired from 2003-2005, and though I don't think they're as taboo as the Holiday Special, it does sort of feel like Lucasfilm has swept them under the rug.

And it's a shame, because they're fantastic. I love the character designs, and the way the shorts portray characters such as Mace Windu, General Grievous, and Asajj Ventress. Like, Grievous gets to be a total badass instead of a sketchy-sketch coward. The complete collection of action figures based on the series was one of my first and bigger collecting purchases because they're so cool looking.

Anyway, the DVDs are sadly out of print. You can still find them online, but they're not cheap. If you don't feel like committing to buying them, you can get an idea of what they series is like by watching a HD YouTube upload of all the shorts. Like all two hours of them. I highly recommend checking it out.

  1. Vastly superior to the cgi Clone Wars in every way!

  2. Tartakovsy is probably my favorite animator. There’s so much style in every movement, so much drama in every shot.
