  2. In Cloud City when Luke make a quick move to ignite his lightsaber and Vader ignites his slowly and casually. He's not worried about this at all.

  7. That moment when the emperor is going to kill Luke and Darth Vader becomes Anakin again - I'm forever amazed that it is possible to feel his dilemma and debate when we can't even see his eyes!

  9. Shoot, I missed the U.S. only thing, but I have a U.S. address, so that would work right?

    My favourite moment is when he first enters Leia's ship at the beginning of 'New Hope' and steps over the fallen rebels. Love his cloak.

  12. When Luke confronts Vader on Bespin... and Vader says "The force is with you, young Skywalker. But you are not a Jedi yet." That always chills me to the bone.

  13. Surprisingly, when Vader steps on Obi-Wan's cloak to see if he's really gone. For an emotionless more-machine-than-man, this can say so many things:
    -Vader is still surprised by what the Force can do.
    -Vader, who claims to be the master (now) is still learning from Obi-Wan.
    -Vader is in shock that his old master/friend is truly gone.
    -Vader respects Obi-Wan enough to not trust his own eyes.

    The list goes on. It's such a simple moment, but it has so much potential for meaning we really can't discern through the mask. Additionally, this potential grew with every single new film:
    IV: Vader is the big bad and just killed his arch rival and old master.
    V: Vader is Luke's father and killed both their mentors.
    VI: Vader is redeemed, showing he isn't completely evil (and must certainly feel remorse for the things he's done).
    I: Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship begins, though Obi-Wan isn't impressed, but takes the young boy on, against his better judgement.
    II: The relationship has grown dramatically, and Obi-Wan is a father figure.
    III: Obi-Wan wins the climactic fight between them, showing him to be superior and the cause of Vader's reliance on machine parts.

    ... Sorry about the long comment, but I've always enjoyed the saga when viewed constantly through the Dark Lord of the Sith's (red) eyes.

  22. For me it's that moment right before he throws the Emperor over the side railing to save Luke. It's in that moment that you really can appreciate the design of the suit's mask. It's almost as if you can see in his "expression" the change in how he feels towards Luke and the Emperor. When he looks towards the Emperor, his eyes become almost squinted looking, as if he is glaring at him, but then when he faces straight to Luke, the eyes become larger and more round looking, as if he is looking upon him with pity. It is one of the greatest moments in not only costume design, but direction I've ever seen in a movie. It is pure genius. A static mask brings a very real emotional response.

  24. It's hard to choose a favorite, but I LOVE his first appearance in A New Hope, when he makes his dramatic entrance into the hallway littered with fallen rebels. Every time I see it, it takes me right back to how I felt as a kid, seeing Star Wars for the first time.

  28. My favorite moment is Vader's first moment on screen in Episode IV. Seeing him stride into the corridor, flanked by stormtroopers, surveying the scene in that inscrutable mask, it's everything you would want in a wordless but tremendously powerful introductory scene. It tells us everything we need to know about what kind of villain Darth Vader is.
